Migraine

Migraine headache is often described as a throbbing pain behind one eye. Light and sound can make this pain worse. Nausea and vomiting often accompany a migraine headache. Migraines can last hours or even days. Lying down on a cold dark room may relieve the pain. Migraines may be aggravated by lack of sleep, certain foods you eat, and/or stress. A woman’s menstrual cycle can be a trigger for migraines. Migraines tend to run in families.

One role of a neurologist is as a headache specialist. One of the most common complaints neurologists see are migraines. Neurologist can verify that your headache is migrainous and may know treatment options of which your family physician is not aware. If you suffer from headaches and your family physician is not providing you relief, then asking for a referral to a neurologist may be appropriate. Remember migraines can be disabling, they disrupt your life, work and family. However, treatment options do exist.
